I Didn't Quit!

It's day three and I didn't quit.  The scale is still moving in the right direction and I'm feeling happy that I chose a plan I can live with.  I just saw a YouTube video about how you have to be in the right head space to accomplish a goal like this.  I really think I'm in that space now.  I am not only wanting to accomplish this goal to look good, but to feel good.  And I'm not just saying that.

I went grocery shopping yesterday and I didn't waste my money on any weird foods.  I bought foods that I like and I know will fit into this plan.  Heck, if all of a sudden I quit (which I won't) I would eat everything I bought.  This is a good sign.

I got fake Doritos, which, at only 3 points per serving, are a great treat for $0.98.  My family is happy with the regular food too.  I get "the look" when I come home with bags of weird groceries when I start strange new diets.  Last night I got smiles.

I got low fat ice cream.  This is an easy swap and I don't feel deprived at all eating this.  I also got some chips, like I said.  Crackers made it into my basket, as my son absolutely lives on cheese and crackers.  I think that's the primary way he gets his calcium.  Either way, I like cheese and crackers, too.  I pair those with a reduced fat, and fully acceptable, cheese.  I got some Craisins, and yogurt covered raisins, tons of yogurt, muffin mixes that will make 2 POINT muffins.  I also got cereal my kids love and I can snack on for 2 POINTS per serving.  I got bananas, apples, and plums.  I got celery, lettuce, pretzels and soup. I added a new, but hopefully not weird item for just over $1, store brand V-8.  I hope I like it, but if not I have seen recipes that use it as a soup base.

Overall, the haul was good.  I had various meats in the freezer and refrigerator and today for supper the plan is turkey sausage (4 POINTS each), spaghetti sauce (1 POINT) and pasta-the regular kind.  Tomorrow is a pork loin with veggies and either rice or potatoes.

For lunch yesterday I roasted potatoes mixed with a bit of salt and jarred garlic and basil.  I sprayed the pan with cooking spray and then sprayed the potatoes.  I roasted for about a half hour at 400 degrees.  That along with a nice piece of leftover pork and beef meatloaf made a nice lunch.  I even topped it off with one of the kid's fruit snacks for a mere POINT.

Five things I have learned: 1. My family is not a fan of fat free stuff unless it's naturally that way. Skim milk and yogurt are fine.  2. I cannot eat copious amounts of fiber no matter how much people tell me it's good for me.  I get death gas and gross everyone out, including myself.  Never mind how it makes me feel.  3. While my family will eat whole grain bread and crackers, whole grain pasta is a no-go.  I waste money when I try to force this.  4. We all like treats.  We may eat too many of them, but my family is happier when I have some around.  5. I cannot happily eat "on plan" food while my family eats other deliciousness for supper.  For the other meals, I can totally make it work, but when I'm trying to swallow low carb coconut crust pizza while my family enjoys my best pizza ever, well, it's a recipe for disaster (read: REBELLION)

Here's to another good day, but before I go here's a note to myself to keep in mind:  Don't let the scale determine your day.  Sometimes it will move up and sometimes it will move down.  It's progress over time we're looking for, not a perfect downward slope.  As Churchill said: "Perfection is the enemy of progress."
